Ups and Downs

It’s been one of those weeks.

On the one hand, the election news has been uniformly depressing, as the PM has taken to racebaiting to game the election. Coupled with increased reports of election fraud (voter cards telling people their polling station is miles away from where they live – in some other riding, in some cases) and the pre-election numbers telling us this shit is actually working…well, I’m losing faith in my fellow Canadians. I thought we were better than that.

On the writing front, well – it’s starting to get fun. The main character was halfway down a set of unlit stairs, leaving a trail of dead bodies behind her, when it suddenly dawned on her that she was very possibly starting a war her country could not win. Bad timing is so amusing – in fiction, anyway.

It’s turning into a pretty complex novel, though. There are layers and layers of betrayal and deceit starting to swirl. Even I don’t know where this will end up!
