Writing Fiction – whyisthissoennervating?

I’m seriously weirded out by this.

I am in a lot (well, a few) writing groups on line, and we share writing tips, critique and (especially for indie authors) marketing ideas.

And websites for stuff like that…we share URLs for  “10 best quotes about writing by famous people who had ghostwriters” and “How to plot your novel in 87 easy steps”…

Okay, yes, I made those up. Most of the time, what we share are legitimate sites with nuggets of wisdom. Sometimes they are uplifting, sometimes they are funny, sometimes they provoke impostor syndrome in a big way, and sometimes they open up your imagination like Moses parting the Red Sea.

And then there’s this one.

Story Generators: From Traits to Action

That’s right: computer random generation to get you out of every problem: plot generators, character generators.

Like this gem:
“I don’t know about you, but the most difficult part of writing a story is coming up with event after event to get the characters through all the arcs and conflicts I’ve planned for them.”

Or this:

“Character generators are a hot ticket, especially good ones that focus on the inner, motivational traits the way Story Forge Cards do.”

I don’t know about anyone else, but…

WHY THE FUCK DO YOU WANT TO BE A WRITER IF YOU DON’T LIKE DEVISING PLOT ELEMENTS AND CREATING CHARACTERS?

ymmv.
